Samples of gasoline engine oil (SAE 5W20) that had been exposed to various oxidation times were inspected with a UV-Visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer select the best wavelengths and wavelength ranges for distinguishing times. Engine samples subjected different thermal periods 0, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144 hours, resulting in range total base number (TBN) levels.
